Reflections

I am having a harder time falling asleep.

I spoke with Kofi and Augustus yesterday about work. They are frustrated - they fill out applications, but no one ever calls back. Augustus got laid off. They understand they are competing with a lot more people now. Kofi related how the Bishop's sons (twins), who just got back from their missions, cannot find work. When I made a side comment about work is hard to find now, but it might get better in 2010, they said in unison: but we need to eat. Kofi related to me in private that he is about to lose his apartment again. At least the weather is better now. Based on what he told me yesterday, he doesn't understand the difficulty he is in. He has no green card, long expired. Legally, the only thing he can od is start his own business, offering a service (not a product). It is a grey zone in the law. This is why so many Mexicans do landscaping - a service. It is not illegal. I cannot help Kofi - he is about to lose all his possesions. Yet he is not frantic - he is not stretching to do anything different than before.
