In the last month, I have reached a weight loss goal making this the most weight I have lost in a continuous period in my life. I have tried a lot of experiments. I have read a lot of food labels. This is what is working for me right now.
The number one surprise to me is wheat. I did a blood sugar test after I eat wheat. My blood sugar gets very high. I metabolize it very fast. I did not start losing weight until I cut out wheat altogether. I am currently eating no grains at all.
I had some tests done 5 years ago to determine foods for which I have intolerance or allergic reaction. There are 2 tests that are done IG0 and IG1. I have since been to an allergy specialist, who told me that the IGo test is an allergy test and the IG1 is the intolerance test. The IG0 is 100% accurate and the IG1 is only 40% accurate.
Based on that information, I have tried bring some of the items identified in the IG1 test, to see what physical symptoms I would get. As a result, I have started eating eggs again, and carrots.
The 2 most common intolerance symptoms of these foods identified on the IG1 test were increased mucus/flem in the sinus and headache.
I was losing weight using a diet plan I found on the WWW called The Diet Solution. I had to get creative with the diet plan because it was based on one's weight, and it did not extend far enough for the extreme weight that I had when I began the diet, which was 355 LBS. There was a pattern in the tabular data the author presented which was easily deduced, and I extrapolated it to extend to higher weights.
after a while, I got lazy, and stopped weighing the ounces of each food, but I had learned to recognize the serving size by eye, so I continued to lose weight.
Then, I started a new plan, based on a book leant to me from a friend. The bulk of my diet now consists of spirulina. Spirulina is the lowest food on the food pyramid, made from blue-green algae. It contains all the essentials for life - all the amino acids, etc.
I was reviewing my food budget, and noticed that the bulk of my food costs was meat = 66%. I have been trying to lessen my eco-footprint, and also save money, so I began to look into Spirulina again.
My current daily diet consists of:
Breakfast: 5 grams spirulina, 1 egg, 1 grapefruit, fiber supplement and optional 1 cup thawed mixed vegetables and optional 2 to 4 ounces imitation crab
Lunch: 2.5 grams Spirulina and an apple
Supper: 1/2 head of diced cabbage boiled for 5 minutes - then I drink the excess liquid used to cook the cabbage as a tea (I REALLY LIKE COOKED CABBAGE)
Late Dinner: 2.5 grams Spirulina and another Apple with optional banana
The sugar foods at night are because of my metabolic type. Sugar foods make me drowsy.
I plan to drop the imitation crab when I run out of what I purchased and stored in the fridge. One of the difficulties I have shopping is that you are doing it on foot, the lighting isn't bright enough for me to read small print, and I keep losing my magnifying glass. I thought the imitation crab was basically Polluck with crab drippings for flavor and artificial coloring to make it look like crab. It actually has a long list of ingredients, including processed soy, wheat and sugar. So off the Grocery shopping list it goes.
So at that point, I will be a vegetarian again. The protein in Spirulina has the same effect in my metabolism as animal protein. My body reacts differently between animal and vegetable protein. I noticed emotional differences and mental differences.
On vegetable protein, I am calmer, but not as quick thinking or creative. One of the reasons I stopped being a vegetarian years ago is because it was affecting my work. The quality of my software plummeted. we're talkin' tanked - as in ordinary, generic and just plain mediocre.
We'll see if I can sustain that diet, or if I have to being animal protein back in some form. I don't plan on going totally Spirulina, as some people do. I want my metabolism to remember how to poop. And I really don't want to give up grapefruit. They're heavenly, but just red grapefruit. Yellow grapefruit is gross...
